The Pascack Valley boys basketball team opened up their season on Friday afternoon against the Teaneck Highwaymen. The Highwaymen, who are a perennial powerhouse in Northern New Jersey, came to play, despite arriving more than a half an hour late. Teaneck spoiled Opening Day for the Indians with a 76-56 victory.
Teaneck jumped out to an early lead, but Valley crawled it's way back into the game. After a back and forth first half, the Indians only trailed by four points at halftime, 36-32. However, at the start of the second half, the Highwaymen stretched their lead, thanks to an onslaught of three-point shots. In fact, all 24 of Teaneck's third quarter points were a result of 8 three pointers. This lead proved to be insurmountable, as the Indians could only garner 24 points in the entire second half. Junior forward Alex Lin led the way for Valley, falling just short of a double-double, with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Senior guard Matt Vasel contributed 14 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 assist. Ja'Quaye James was the leading scorer for Teaneck with 31 points. The Bergen Record had a reporter at the game, as well. Check out their article here. Also, check out some pictures from Friday's game. -Josh DeLuca

The Indians' Boys' Basketball team opens up their season today at 4:00pm at Pascack Valley. PV welcomes the Teaneck Highwaymen for their first of two meetings this season. Last year's squad, who finished with a 15-10 record, did not fair so well against Teaneck, dropping both games 73-58 and 77-46 respectively. This is the first of twenty-three scheduled games for the Indians, in what looks to be a competitive season.
